Clothes Alterations in Doha: What Each Job Costs, How Long It Takes, and What to Send
Most clothes bought off the rail fit nobody perfectly. Trousers come long, shirts are cut wide through the body so they fit as many people as possible, and jacket sleeves are made for an average arm. In a city where many people work in offices and wear a suit, a thobe or an abaya most days, small alterations are what make the clothes look like they were made for you. The question most people have is practical: what will it cost, and how soon will it be back?
Quick answer: most everyday alterations in Doha start from QAR 40 per job on our October 2026 price list: a trouser hem, a waist take in, a shirt side seam, or a plain abaya or kandura shortening. Jacket sleeves start from QAR 55 and a full two-piece suit resize from QAR 145. Basic jobs take 2 to 3 business days; garments with intricate linings or beadwork take 5 to 7 business days. In our worked example, fitting a new office wardrobe of two suit trousers, one jacket and three shirts costs QAR 255.
Every price in this post comes from our Qatar price list as published in October 2026. Every turnaround comes from our live alterations service in Doha page.
What Do the Most Common Alterations Cost?
Each job on our list has two starting prices. The standard rate covers everyday fabrics such as cotton, wool blends, polyester and denim. The delicate rate applies to silk, lace, beaded and leather garments, because they need slower hand work and a mistake cannot be steamed out. Here are the everyday jobs on the list.
- Trousers: a plain or blind stitch hem from QAR 40 (delicate QAR 65). A standard waist take in or let out from QAR 40, a major one from QAR 50. Tapering below the knee from QAR 40, the full leg from QAR 50.
- Shirts and blouses: side seam take in for a slimmer fit from QAR 40, sleeve shortening from the cuff from QAR 40, a new collar from QAR 55.
- Jackets and suits: sleeves shortened from the cuff from QAR 55, from the shoulder from QAR 65, side seams from QAR 55, body shortening from QAR 70, and a full two-piece resize from QAR 145 (three-piece from QAR 195).
- Dresses: a day dress hem from QAR 40, an evening gown hem from QAR 45, a beaded or chiffon multi-layer hem from QAR 55, and a one-size full resize from QAR 55.
- Abayas, thobes and kanduras: plain length shortening from QAR 40, an abaya hem with embroidery or lace from QAR 55, and a full custom fitting from QAR 95.
- Zips and small repairs: a small zip from QAR 50, a seam repair from QAR 40, a single button from QAR 12.
Why does a jacket sleeve cost more than a shirt sleeve? On a shirt the cuff comes off and goes back on. On a tailored jacket the lining has to be opened, the buttons and any working buttonholes have to sit in the right place after the cut, and the sleeve has to hang cleanly from the shoulder.
A Worked Example: Fitting a New Office Wardrobe
To give a real total rather than a range, we priced one batch of the kind a new office starter might send. The garments are our assumption, chosen to be ordinary, not data about any customer.
- Two pairs of suit trousers hemmed: 2 x QAR 40 = QAR 80.
- One suit jacket, sleeves shortened from the cuff: QAR 55.
- Three shirts taken in at the side seams: 3 x QAR 40 = QAR 120.
- Total: QAR 255 at the standard rate, back in 2 to 3 business days.
Two things change that total. If one of the shirts is silk, its take in moves to the delicate rate of QAR 65, which makes the batch QAR 280. If you need the batch in 24 hours, express adds half the item price: QAR 255 plus QAR 127.50 makes QAR 382.50. Our advice is to book early enough that you never need express. Planning one week ahead covers even the 5 to 7 business day jobs.
How Long Will My Clothes Be Away?
The turnaround depends on the garment, not on where you live in the city. From our Doha alterations page:
- 2 to 3 business days: basic jobs such as trouser hems and waist adjustments.
- 5 to 7 business days: complex garments with intricate linings or beadwork.
- 24 hours: express, at half the item price extra.
- Within 7 days of delivery: minor re-fitting is free if something is not quite right.
If a date matters, such as a first day at work or an event, say so in your first message so the timing is confirmed before collection.
How Do I Get the Fit Right Without a Fitting Room?
With a pickup service there is no shop counter to stand at, so the measurements have to travel with the clothes. There are three ways to do it.
- Send a reference garment. For a simple hem or waist job, a pair of trousers that already fits you perfectly is the most reliable guide. Our Doha page supports this for simple hemming and waist adjustments.
- Pin it yourself. Put the garment on with the shoes you will wear, fold the hem to where you want it and pin it. One pin at the front and one at the back is enough.
- Book a home fitting. For a full suit resize, a dress take in or anything with several adjustments, a tailor can take measurements at your home or office for QAR 75.
Common Mistakes That Cost Time or Money
Pinning without the right shoes. A trouser hem pinned barefoot will be too short in office shoes. A dress hem pinned in flats will drag in heels. Always pin wearing the shoes that go with the garment.
Sending a dirty garment. Sweat and stains along a hem or a seam can set when the new seam is pressed. If the piece is due a clean, clean it first. Our post on what a good suit cleaner should do covers how tailored jackets should be handled.
Asking for too much from one alteration. Taking a jacket in by one size is a normal job. Going down two sizes or more changes the balance of the pockets, darts and shoulders, so it costs more (a two-size dress resize starts from QAR 75 against QAR 55 for one size) and sometimes the honest answer is that the garment will never sit right. Ask before you commit.
Traditional Wear and Occasion Pieces
Abayas, thobes, kanduras and jalabiyas are priced on the same simple scale. A plain length shortening on an abaya, thobe or kandura starts from QAR 40, as do sleeve and shoulder adjustments. An abaya hem with embroidery or lace starts from QAR 55, because the trim has to be lifted and set back so the pattern stays whole, and stone or crystal reattachment also starts from QAR 55. Salwar kameez, kurta and saree blouse work runs from QAR 40 to QAR 55, and a lehenga hem from QAR 85.
Children are a separate case. A school trouser hem starts from QAR 40, and a 5-item uniform bundle is QAR 175. Timing matters most there, and our guide to school uniform alterations before term sets out when to send them.
Wedding gowns are different again. A gown hem, bodice take in, bustle or train shortening is quoted on request, not from a fixed price, because every bridal gown is constructed differently. Send photos and the event date before booking.
Booking Alterations Where You Live in Doha
Prices and turnarounds are the same across the city. What changes from one neighbourhood to the next is mostly the type of building the driver collects from.
In West Bay, Doha's high-rise business district, most collections are from office or residential towers, and a suit and shirt batch like our worked example is the obvious fit for tailoring pickups in West Bay. Next door, Onaiza is a mainly residential neighbourhood, and you can book alterations in Onaiza from the lobby or the villa gate the same way.
Al Sadd is a commercial and residential district in central Doha, home to Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, and our Al Sadd alterations page covers its apartment buildings. The neighbouring streets are booked the same way through a tailor collection in Bin Mahmoud or clothes alterations in Al Nasr.
Msheireb Downtown, the rebuilt quarter beside Souq Waqif, has apartments and offices close to Msheireb metro station. You can request hemming and fitting in Msheireb Downtown for collection from home or work. For everything else we do across the city, start from our Doha laundry page.
When you message us, list each garment and the job: "2 trousers, hem; 1 jacket, sleeves from cuff; 3 shirts, take in". Mention any silk, lace or leather so the right rate is quoted, and say whether you are sending a reference garment. Book on WhatsApp and the driver collects at no charge.
